Is the guitar a good choice for someone with no musical experience?
It is, because with only a few simple chords in the left hand and a couple of strumming patterns with the right hand, the student can begin making music!
What is the difference between playing guitar and bass?
Both instruments are tuned similarly, so much of what is learned on one instrument is transferable to the other and sometimes a student will study both simultaneously. The bass typically is played in single note lines, where the guitar can be played in single note lines or with chords.
Do you require students to learn to read music or musical notation?
No. Much music can be notated using a more simplified technique known as guitar tablature. However, if a student is interested in continuing their studies at the college or university level, a working knowledge of music notation is essential and can become a part of their studies with Charlie.

What are some examples of the types of goals your students have?
Some students want to learn in order to play by themselves at home, while others want to build the skills and confidence needed to play with friends at social gatherings. Often, teachers will come in order to have the skills to lead sing-alongs in their classrooms. Other students have their sights on joining bands or playing in church groups or school-based ensembles. Some will continue to study music at the college or conservatory level and will need to gain some expertise in reading standard music notation as well as music theory.
